In today’s computer environment, everything is based on data changes, which work within a compact memory storage device, which is a memory card, pen drive, and hard drive etc. But sometimes some media storage devices have some sensitive data that we do not want to share with anyone in this way, we have to keep our data safe in these manageable drives

Unfortunately, you can not just protect your entire USB stick, as you can password protect your PC or phone. Devices that will keep all data seriously encrypted with all the tasks. Unless you want to invest in a secure flash drive with hardware encryption, you can use freeware applications to get the same level of security.

there is so many software available in the market, with this, you can secure your USB drive but I personally believe it’s not worth it. I will show you an easy way to protect your USB drive with password protected files and folder.

1. Save Individual Files With a Password

As mentioned above, you can not protect your entire USB stick securely without using encryption. However, if you run away from the time-consuming encryption process of entire folders and only need a quick way to protect certain selected files, you can save them only with a USB password.

there are so many programs, including Word and Excel, allow you to save passwords with passwords.

For example, in Word, when the document is open, go to File> Insights, expand the Security Document menu, and select Encrypt with password.

Now enter your password and confirm it to protect your document.

Finally, save your document.

To protect PDF files you can use pdf reader to protect your pdf file.

2. Create a Password-Protected Archive

Archive tools like 7-ZIP or Win-rar can also be encrypted your files safe with AES-256.

to do this Install 7-Zip and Run, right-click the file or folder on your USB drive, and select 7-Zip> Add to Collection. in Archive Window, select Archive format and add a password. Click OK to begin the archiving and encryption process.

3. Encrypt Your Entire Flash Drive

as I mentioned above, there are so many software to encrypt your USB drives like Wondershare USB Drive Encryption, DiskCryptor, Kakasoft USB security and Rohos Mini Drive but in this article, we use BitLocker to encrypt our USB drives.

This method is very simple and easy to implement, you will secure your drive with the password that should be entered every time to insert that drive into the computer. This feature is available by default in the Windows operating system and you have to follow a few simple steps to proceed with this method.

1) First of all, insert USB Pendrive into your computer. Now right click on the drive and select Turn on BitLocker.

2) Now click on Use password to protect the drive. Now enter the password you want to set in both the password fields.

3) Now click on next and next and print or save the key for future reference.

4) Now encryption process will start and your drive will get secured with the password that you have set.

Set up a password that you remember easily. otherwise, you will lose your drive data.
